Öbölház Multicultural Wedding
Ilo & Krisztián
I’ve photographed a few weddings in Budapest, but Ilo and Krisztián’s at Öbölház really stood out. It was a multicultural wedding, Afghan and Hungarian, and everything came together in a way that felt natural from the start.
The morning had its own rhythm. Ilo is getting ready in her traditional Afghan dress, surrounded by colour, movement, and those quieter moments that don’t ask for attention but stay with you. The small rituals, the henna, the moment before leaving the house, all set the tone.
The ceremony took place outdoors at Öbölház, right by the water. Simple, but not empty. The sand ceremony felt grounded, not symbolic for its own sake. There were a few emotional pauses that no one rushed through.
Then the energy shifted.
The reception didn’t build slowly; it just took off. The dance floor filled early and stayed full. Afghan dancing, Hungarian bride dance, limbo, everything mixing together without feeling separate. Just people fully in it.
There were also those details that made it theirs. The printed notes with Krisztián’s face, slightly chaotic, very funny. Ilo later changed into her white dress, and the cake cutting followed an Afghan tradition, surrounded by people who were completely there for it.
We also stepped away for a bit, and the next day, headed to Hármashatárhegy for portraits. Golden hour into blue hour, the city stretching behind them, and everything slowing down again.
Massive thanks to Ilo & Krisztián. Weddings like this remind me why I love being a wedding photographer in Budapest.
