Christmas Newborn Studio Session
Bella
I already knew Ági and Matyi from their wedding. So when they got in touch about a Christmas newborn studio session for their baby, saying yes was so easy.
What I didn’t fully anticipate was the baby himself. At 3 months old, Bella had already developed a complete personality. Opinions. Expressions. A grin that takes up her whole face. This was not going to be a sleepy newborn session, and it wasn’t trying to be.

The studio
The studio was properly dressed for Christmas: white walls strung with fairy lights, a white tree covered in blue stars, wrapped presents stacked in the corner, and a wicker basket lined with fleece on the floor. Multiple setups, each one a little different in mood. We moved through them at whatever pace Bella decided, which turned out to be entirely his own.

The session
She wore a gingerbread-print onesie with red booties that said “oh deer” on the soles. At one point, she was flat on her tummy in front of the tree, head up, grinning directly at me like she’d been doing this for years. At another, she was in the basket, looking up with that particular baby expression that sits somewhere between curiosity and mild suspicion.

And then there’s the shot of Ági holding her up in the air in front of the bokeh lights, both of them laughing. He’s mid-sound, arms out, completely delighted. That one pretty much sums up the whole session.

Bella’s dad held her against his chest in the warm glow of the fairy lights, cheek pressed to the top of her head. The details shot —those red booties against a dark jumper, bokeh melting into gold behind them—is the kind of image that looks like it took planning and actually just happened when I was paying attention.

The family portraits have all 3 of them on the floor in front of the blue-star tree, Bella sitting up between them with the expression of someone who has somewhere else to be. It’s completely her.
A Christmas newborn studio session at this age is worth considering precisely because they’re awake. There’s so much more to work with — the reactions, the sounds, the way they track your face and suddenly decide to smile at the exact right moment. It’s less controlled than a sleepy newborn session and considerably more fun.

Thinking about
a Christmas newborn studio session?
Hi, I’m Eszter, a Bristol family photographer available to travel.
I photograph families in a calm, unhurried way, which sounds straightforward until there’s a 3-month-old in the room who has decided today is a talking day. Then it’s about staying close, paying attention, and being ready when it happens.
A studio Christmas session gives you a set that’s already dressed and lit. You just bring your family and whatever the day brings. The photos end up feeling like a real moment in time, because that’s exactly what they are.
If that sounds like your kind of session, I’d love to hear from you.
