Lifestyle Newborn Session at Home in Bristol
Huni
Newborn sessions at home are never quiet. There’s always a feed that needs to happen right now, a nappy situation nobody planned for, and someone who was asleep 30 seconds ago but has now decided otherwise. And honestly? That’s exactly what makes them good.
I went to photograph Huni and his family at their home in Bristol, and it was one of those sessions that just had everything. A brand new baby boy, a 6-year-old big sister with enough energy to power the whole street, and 2 parents who were tired, happy, and completely in love with their new life as a family of 4.

One of the things that made this session so special was the traditional Hungarian embroidered outfits the family brought out. Huni wore a tiny folk top with bold floral embroidery. His big sister wore a matching white blouse. Even mum’s jumper carried the same hand-stitched motif. It wasn’t styled or coordinated for the camera. It was just who they are.
As someone who grew up in Hungary, I felt this in a way that’s hard to explain. Seeing those patterns on a newborn baby in a Bristol living room, knowing what they mean and where they come from. It connected something for me, too.

What Happens When You Add a 6-Year-Old to a Newborn Session?
You get the best facial expressions you’ll ever see in a family photo, that’s what. Huni’s big sister was brilliant. Full of laughter on the sofa for the family portrait, then completely gentle and still when she lay next to her baby brother, both of them in their Hungarian outfits, eyes closed, side by side.
That contrast is something I could never direct. You just stay close, stay patient, and let it happen. A 6-year-old will give you about 4 seconds of calm before the next burst of energy, and you learn to love both versions equally.

Thinking about
An At-Home Newborn Session?
This family said afterwards that I was patient, that it wasn’t easy with a newborn and a 6-year-old (they’re not wrong), and that love flows from the pictures. That’s probably the best description of what I’m trying to do. Not perfect photos. Photos that let you feel what was happening in the room.
I come to you. Your home, your sofa, your kitchen light. No studio backdrop, no props, no pressure. Just your family, as you actually are right now, in this tiny window of time that changes faster than you think.
If that sounds like something you’d want, get in touch and tell me a bit about your family. I’d love to hear from you.
