Golden Hour Engagement Photos by the Danube
Fanni & Zoli
Some sessions give you one kind of light. This one gave us everything.
Fanni and Zoli’s golden hour engagement photos began under the willow trees along a quiet stretch of the Danube in Hungary, with the late-afternoon sun filtering through the branches. By the time we finished, the sky had turned into something I couldn’t have planned if I tried. Pinks, oranges, deep blues. The kind of sunset that makes you stop talking and just look.
This is one of the things I love most about shooting back in my home country. The Danube has a pace to it. The light moves slowly, the air is warm, and there’s space to just be.

From Shade to Sunset
We began in the shade of the willow trees, where the light was soft and dappled, and the river sat quietly in the background. It’s the kind of spot that feels private, even though it’s wide open. The branches frame everything naturally, and they gave Fanni and Zoli somewhere to settle in without feeling exposed.
As the sun dropped lower, we moved out onto the sandy riverbank. The light shifted from warm gold to something deeper and richer. We didn’t rush it. That’s the thing about golden hour engagement photos: they work best when you let them unfold. You follow the light, not a shot list. The last few frames of the session were silhouettes against that blazing sky, and honestly, the Danube did most of the work.

Why an Engagement Session Is Worth It
Most couples I photograph tell me they were nervous before the session started. Fanni and Zoli were no different. A little quiet at first, a little unsure about where to look or what to do with their hands.
But that shifts. It almost always does, usually within the first 20 minutes. You stop thinking about the camera and start paying attention to each other. By the end, Fanni and Zoli were laughing between shots and completely in their own world.
That’s the real point of a pre-wedding session. It’s not about getting a set of polished portraits. It’s about arriving at your wedding day already knowing how it feels to be photographed together. Already trusting the person behind the camera. Already knowing it’s not as scary as you thought.

Thinking about
An Engagement Session?
Hi, I’m Eszter, a Bristol-based engagement photographer originally from Hungary. Fanni and Zoli came to their session a little unsure about the whole thing. By the end, they were wrapped up in each other on the riverbank while the sky did something extraordinary behind them. That’s what a good engagement session does. It takes the pressure off before the wedding day even starts.
You don’t need a plan, a location in mind, or any experience being photographed. You just need an afternoon and each other. I’ll handle the rest.
If that sounds like something you’d be into, get in touch and tell me what you’re planning. Or just say hi. That works too.
