Dobogókő Engagement Session
Zsófi & Norbi
Here’s something I’ve learned after years of photographing couples: almost everyone shows up to their engagement session convinced they’re going to be terrible at it. Zsófi and Norbi were no different. A summer afternoon up at Dobogókő, sun cutting through the canopy, and two people who kept saying, “We don’t really know what to do.”
Turns out, they didn’t need to.

The Session
We started up at the Dobogókő lookout, the kind of spot where love locks hang from the railings and the Visegrád Hills roll out beneath you in every direction. It was hot. The light was strong. And Zsófi and Norbi were still a little stiff, the way everyone is at the beginning, holding each other like they were posing for a passport photo.
That lasted about 10 minutes.

By the time we moved into the forest, something had shifted. The shade helped. The walking helped. Just being away from other people and doing something together, even something as small as sitting on a bench under an old oak tree, made them forget I was there.

They changed into a second outfit partway through, and the whole energy changed with it. More relaxed. More playful. And then came the smoke bombs.
Blue and purple first, then red and white. Zsófi held one out while Norbi pulled her closer, and the colour just poured through the trees behind them. It wasn’t planned to the second. It was messy and fun, and they were laughing through most of it, which is exactly the point.

I shot a mix of colour and black-and-white throughout the session. The black-and-white images feel quieter, more intimate. The coloured ones, especially the smoke-bomb shots, are pure energy. I like having both in a gallery. It tells a fuller story.

Thinking about
Dobogókő Engagement Session?
Hi, I’m Eszter, a Bristol engagement photographer originally from Hungary.
Zsófi and Norbi walked into their Dobogókő engagement session absolutely sure they’d look awkward in every photo. By the time we got to the smoke bombs, they were kissing in clouds of blue and purple smoke and laughing so hard the photos almost blur. That’s what a good pre-wedding session does. It takes the pressure off before the wedding day even starts.
I photograph engagement sessions in Hungary, across Europe, and at home in Bristol; I know the light in these hills. I grew up here. And there’s something about photographing couples in a landscape I carry with me that makes these sessions feel a little different.
You don’t need a plan, a location in mind, or any experience being photographed. You just need an afternoon and each other. I’ll handle the rest.
If you’re thinking about a session, get in touch and tell me what you’re planning. Or not planning. Either works.
