Engagement Photographer Bristol

Documentary engagement photography for couples who’d rather walk and talk than stand and smile.

You don’t need to be photogenic for this.

Let me guess. You read the words “engagement photoshoot” and felt a small, specific dread.

You’ve seen the photos other people post. The two of you facing each other in a field, hands clasped, gazing into each other’s eyes like it’s a perfume advert. The matching outfits nobody actually owns, and the forehead touches that look choreographed because they were.

That’s not what this is.

You don’t need a plan, and you don’t need to know what to do with your hands. You need an afternoon, a place that feels like you, and the willingness to forget the camera within the first 20 minutes. Which, in case you’re wondering, is genuinely what happens.

“We both felt slightly nervous about being in a photoshoot, but Eszter made everything feel effortless and fun. We highly recommend anyone looking for fun and/or romantic photos to get in touch with her.”

A bit about me

I’m Eszter. I’m Eszter, an engagement photographer in Bristol with a Master of Arts in Photography and a background in photojournalism. Before I photographed couples, I spent years in fast-moving news environments, the kind of work where you either learn to read a situation in seconds or you miss it entirely.

I’m calm during sessions. Quiet when quiet is what’s needed. I make people laugh occasionally, not to get a smile for the camera, but because it’s a good session and laughing is what’s happening.

I think engagement photography should feel nothing like the idea of engagement photography. No stiff poses and no coordinated outfits. No standing in a field gazing at each other as nobody else exists.

Just the two of you, on an ordinary evening, being yourselves.

“They gave us just the right amount of direction to help us achieve the candid and posed shots we were hoping for, all while keeping the experience fun and relaxed. They captured the emotion, the light, and the little moments perfectly.”

FAQ

About working with an engagement photographer

Wear what you actually wear, just turned up a notch. Soft tones and layered textures photograph well together. Matching outfits read as staged on screen and take focus away from the connection between you. Anything you can move freely in is the right answer. Once you book, I’ll send you a short guide with practical tips on colours, layers, and what to avoid. Or you can read my full what-to-wear guide now.

The Classic session location. The Extended session is up to 2.5 hours and gives us time for two locations or an outfit change. Most couples find 90 minutes is plenty to warm up, find a rhythm, and end up with something special.

Anywhere that feels like you. Some couples go urban (Harbourside, Stokes Croft, Bedminster), some go green (Leigh Woods, Ashton Court, Brandon Hill), some go full-on Bristol icon (Clifton Suspension Bridge at sunset). I also shoot in Bath, the Cotswolds, and across Somerset for couples who want a longer adventure. I have a list of favourites, and I’m happy to suggest a spot based on what you tell me about yourselves.

Anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 months out works. The sweet spot is around 3 to 6 months before the wedding. Far enough away that you’re not panicking about save-the-dates, close enough that the photos can be used for stationery, your wedding website, or framed prints for guests.

Most couples I work with tell me this in their first email. And then by minute 20 of the session, they’ve forgotten the camera exists.
The trick isn’t being naturally photogenic. The trick is having something to do, somewhere to walk, a person who’s giving you gentle prompts instead of telling you to “act natural.” Emma, one of the couples I worked with, said afterwards that even though both of them had arrived properly uncomfortable on camera, they were able to relax and genuinely enjoy the session. That happens almost every time.

Yes, absolutely. Most couples I work with do exactly that. You’ll get high-resolution downloads with print release, so you can use the images for save-the-dates, wedding websites, guest books, prints for relatives, or wall art for your home.

Across Bristol, Somerset, and the wider South West. Most sessions happen on location: your studio, your workshop, your kitchen, your favourite cafe, or somewhere outdoors that fits your brand. I’m also happy to recommend a location if you don’t have one in mind.

Yes, and they’re often one of my favourite parts of the session. Just let me know when you book so I can factor it into the timing and the location.

Light drizzle can produce moody, beautiful photos, and I’m happy to shoot in it. Heavy rain is different. Most couples choose to reschedule for another date, which I accommodate at no extra cost. We can also move the session indoors to your home if you’d rather not wait.

Regularly. Travel within 30 miles of Bristol is included in both sessions. I also shoot engagement sessions in Bath, the Cotswolds, Somerset, South Wales, and across Europe (Hungary, Croatia, and the Czech Republic so far). For anything further, get in touch, and I’ll let you know the details for your specific location.
