West Woods Engagement Photos

Eleanor & Jack

Eleanor and Jack told me straight away that they were both camera-shy. They wanted an engagement session, not because they had something to prove, but because they wanted to feel more comfortable being photographed before their wedding day. Honestly? That’s one of the best reasons to book one.

We met on a summer afternoon in the West Woods in Wiltshire. Late light, tall beech trees, and that green-on-green glow you only get when the canopy is full and the sun is low enough to filter sideways through the leaves.

They brought a few things with them. A picnic blanket and a wicker hamper. Two bottles of champagne. And a bouquet that Eleanor had made herself, pink roses and daisies, loosely tied and a little wild-looking. It was so them.

The first 20 minutes were exactly what you’d expect. A bit awkward, a bit of nervous laughter, a lot of “what do we do with our hands?” But that’s normal. It’s always normal. And then something shifts. They stop thinking about the camera and start just being together. Jack wraps his arms around Eleanor from behind. Eleanor laughed into his shoulder. Quiet moments between the trees, when neither of them said anything and neither needed to.

We walked deeper into the woods and found a clearing where the light was doing something ridiculous. Soft and green and cinematic. I pulled back and let them stand there together, tiny among the beech trunks, and that ended up being one of my favourite frames from the whole session.

Then came the champagne pop. Back-to-back, bottles aimed in opposite directions, spraying into the trees. Eleanor was laughing so hard she could barely hold the bottle straight. That’s the kind of moment I live for.

Thank you, guys, for trusting us.

An Engagement Session at West Woods?

Hi, I’m Eszter, a Bristol wedding photographer.

Eleanor and Jack came to their session convinced they’d be awkward in front of the camera. By the end, they were spraying champagne into the trees and laughing so hard they forgot I was there. That’s what a good engagement session does. It takes the pressure off before the wedding day even starts.

You don’t need a plan, a location in mind, or any experience being photographed. You just need an afternoon and each other. I’ll handle the rest.
