THE STORY OF YOUR LOVE

FOR ADVENTUROUS SOULS

The biggest journey

You are likely to organise one of the most significant events of your life. It’s a time filled with joy, love, and myriad decisions and details that sometimes feel overwhelming. From selecting the perfect venue to finalizing the guest list, each choice is a step towards creating the day you’ve always dreamed of.

While I haven’t experienced the personal journey of planning my wedding, my role as a wedding photographer has immersed me in the world of weddings in a deeply intimate way. I’ve witnessed firsthand the stress, the excitement, and the profound joy of couples as they navigate their big day.

One wedding, in particular, stands out in my memory. The couple was overwhelmed by the pressure to ensure everything was flawless. As the day unfolded, I noticed a shift in their demeanour. It happened during a candid moment, a spontaneous laugh between them, unburdened by the need for perfection. Then, the true spirit of their love and the day shone through.

At Emerald Photo UK, we bring this understanding to your wedding. We know that the most memorable moments are often unplanned amidst the hustle and bustle. We focus on capturing these genuine, fleeting moments, ensuring that your wedding photos truly reflect your day.

Getting ready

Morning preparation

As the morning sun gently bathes the bridal suite in a warm, golden light, I capture every laugh, tear, and heartfelt moment. Amidst the flurry of excitement, with your bridesmaids sharing stories and your dress hanging beautifully, I focus on the genuine, spontaneous moments. From the loving glance of your mother as she adjusts your veil to the shared giggles with your best friend, each candid shot is a piece of your story. It’s these unscripted, joyful moments, full of anticipation and love that I aim to freeze in time – creating memories that will bring you back to the heart of your wedding day with every glance.

The Groom’s Story:

If you’ve opted for coverage of the groom’s preparations, I’ll swing by his location or have a second shooter capture those moments. This includes photographing his attire and candid moments with his groomsmen and family.

First look (optional)

The First Look is a private moment before the ceremony where the couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day. It breaks with the traditional notion of not seeing each other until they walk down the aisle, offering a more intimate and private setting. This moment can be a beautiful opportunity to ease nerves, share a quiet moment together, and capture some truly heartfelt photographs.

Seeing each other before the ceremony can significantly ease nerves. It allows you to share your excitement and calm your nerves, making the walk down the aisle less anxious. The First Look is a rare moment of quiet and intimacy on a day that is otherwise bustling and filled with people. It also allows more time to capture couple portraits without rushing, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable photo session.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is the pivotal moment of your special day, the very reason friends and family gather to celebrate your love. The ceremony is a rich tapestry of emotions and rituals. From the profound and solemn vows to the subtle, tender glances exchanged between the couple, each element is a thread in the fabric of your day.

Whether it’s a grand cathedral, a serene beach, or a quaint countryside setting, the location sets the stage for your story. We capture not just the couple but the ambience and setting that envelops them, ensuring the essence of the venue is intertwined with your ceremony photos.

During the ceremony, we maintain a discreet presence. We understand the importance of being unobtrusive, ensuring that the sanctity and intimacy of the ceremony are preserved while capturing every significant moment.

From the walk down the aisle to exchanging vows and rings, the first kiss, and the joyful recessional, we are ever-present, capturing these milestone moments. We aim to document these highlights in a way that feels natural and true to your experience.

Beyond the key moments, the details add depth to your story – the nervous hand-holding, the tearful parents, the excited flower children, and the guests’ reactions. We capture these nuances, understanding that they are integral to the tapestry of your day.

Post-Ceremony Portraits

After the vows have been exchanged and the rings have been placed, the post-ceremony period offers a golden opportunity to capture the essence of your union in a series of portraits. The post-ceremony period is often the first moment you pause and soak in the fact that you are now married. It’s a time filled with joy, relief, and a deep connection. Our photography aims to capture these genuine emotions in a relaxed and natural setting.

A unique glow and energy surround a couple immediately after their ceremony. We focus on capturing this radiance, the looks of love and happiness, and your unspoken bond.

GOT SOME QUESTIONS?

As a candid-style wedding photographer, my approach to capturing critical moments like vows, the first kiss, and the first dance is rooted in thorough preparation and a keen sense of anticipation. Before the wedding day, I engage in detailed discussions with the couple to understand their schedule and preferences, ensuring I know their most significant moments. This preparation extends to scouting the venue for optimal shooting spots and understanding the lighting conditions.

On the day, I focus on being as inconspicuous as possible, blending into the background to capture the most natural and genuine expressions. I strategically position myself to get the best view of the couple while also being mindful of the guests, ensuring I’m ready to capture both the main action and the surrounding reactions. My camera is always prepped with the right settings for the environment, and I often use continuous shooting mode during pivotal moments to ensure no detail is missed.

The essence of my work also lies in capturing the spontaneous reactions of family and friends, adding depth to the story of the day. I’m always equipped with a backup plan to tackle unforeseen circumstances like weather changes or technical difficulties, carrying extra gear and having contingency plans. The final step in my process is carefully selecting and editing images post-wedding.

This is where I enhance the emotions and beauty captured, ensuring the photographs reflect the essence of the day. My approach combines technical skills with an empathetic understanding of the event, allowing me to preserve the most precious wedding moments in a way that resonates with authenticity and warmth.

My photography style is best described as candid and storytelling, focusing on capturing the genuine, unscripted moments that naturally unfold throughout your wedding day. I strive to create images that are not just visually stunning but also emotionally resonant, reflecting the unique atmosphere and intimacy of each moment.

This approach involves a blend of documentary-style shooting with an artistic flair, ensuring the photos are authentic and aesthetically pleasing. I pay close attention to the subtle interactions, the fleeting glances, and the spontaneous emotions that truly encapsulate the spirit of your special day. My goal is to produce a collection of images that, when pieced together, tell the complete story of your wedding – from the grand, sweeping moments to the delicate, intimate details.

Adapting my style to your specific wedding theme and preferences is a process that begins with understanding your vision and expectations. I take the time to learn about the elements that are most important to you, whether it’s the decor, the venue, the guests, or specific traditions you plan to incorporate. This understanding allows me to anticipate key moments and focus on aspects that truly matter to you. If your wedding has a particular theme or aesthetic,

I adapt my approach to complement it – for instance, capturing the elegance and grace of a classic, traditional wedding or the vibrant energy of a more modern, unconventional celebration. My flexibility and sensitivity to different styles ensure that the photographs will reflect the unique ambience and personality of your wedding. By combining my candid storytelling approach with a keen eye for your personal preferences and theme, I aim to create a collection of images that are true to my artistic vision and deeply personalized to your special day.

Allocating the right amount of time for each part of your wedding is crucial for a smooth flow and to ensure ample photo opportunities. Generally, I recommend setting aside about 1 to 1.5 hours for the’ getting ready’ part. This time frame allows me to capture candid moments and finer details like the dress, shoes, and jewellery.

It’s also a great opportunity to photograph the anticipation and emotions of you and your bridal party. For the ceremony, the duration typically depends on your specific traditions and the type of ceremony you’re having. However, allocating an additional 15-30 minutes before and after the ceremony is good. This extra time helps capture the venue and guests arriving, while the time after is perfect for those immediate post-ceremony reactions and congratulations.

For portraits, I usually suggest at least 1 hour. This includes family portraits, bridal party photos, and couple portraits. It’s important to prepare a list of must-have family shots beforehand to make this process efficient. The best time for couple portraits is often during the ‘golden hour’ – the hour before sunset – when the light is soft and flattering. Finally, for the reception, the time can vary greatly depending on your plans.

However, allocating around 3-4 hours allows for a relaxed pace to capture all key moments like the first dance, speeches, cake cutting, and the party atmosphere. Remember, these are general guidelines, and we can always tailor the timeline to fit your unique wedding schedule and priorities, ensuring we capture the essence of your special day without feeling rushed.

Handling various lighting situations, particularly indoor ceremonies and evening receptions, is a critical aspect of wedding photography, and it’s an area where I bring both technical expertise and creative adaptability. Indoor ceremonies often present challenges such as low light or mixed lighting conditions. To address this, I use professional-grade camera equipment that performs exceptionally well in low light.

This includes fast lenses with wide apertures, allowing for maximum light capture without the need for intrusive flash. I also employ the use of off-camera flashes and diffusers when necessary, set up discreetly to enhance the ambient light without disrupting the ceremony’s atmosphere. My approach is always to balance the need for sufficient lighting with maintaining the integrity and mood of the setting. I constantly adjust camera settings like ISO, shutter speed, and aperture to adapt to changing conditions, ensuring crisp, clear images even in challenging lighting.

Evening receptions, with their dynamic and often dimly lit environments, require a different approach. Here, I embrace the ambient light to capture the mood and energy of the celebration. I often utilize a combination of on-camera flash with bounce techniques, which softens the light for a more natural look, and continuous LED lights for a steady source of illumination during key moments like dances and speeches.

Additionally, I love to get creative with the available light sources, such as string lights, candles, or disco lights, using them to create interesting, dramatic effects and silhouettes. My goal is to use light not just as a tool for visibility, but as a creative element that adds to the story of each photograph. Throughout, I remain flexible and responsive, adapting to the unique lighting conditions of each venue and moment, ensuring that the final images are not only well-exposed but also convey the ambiance and emotion of your special day.

My post-production timeline is designed to ensure that each photo from your special day receives the attention it deserves while also delivering your final images in a timely manner. Typically, the process takes about 4 to 6 weeks after the wedding day. This timeframe allows me to carefully review and select the best images from the hundreds, sometimes thousands, captured during your event.

Each selected photo then goes through a detailed editing process, where I adjust color balance, exposure, sharpness, and perform any necessary retouching to ensure every image meets my high standards of quality. This process is meticulous because I believe in delivering a final product that truly encapsulates the beauty and emotion of your day. During this period, I often provide a sneak peek of a few select images within a few days of the wedding, so you have a glimpse of what’s to come.

When it comes to delivering the final photos, I use a personalized, secure online gallery where you can view, download, and share all your high-resolution images. This gallery is typically accessible for a specified period, allowing you and your loved ones ample time to relive the memories. For added convenience and a touch of the personal, I also offer options for physical delivery, such as USB drives or custom-designed albums, depending on your preference and package selection.

These physical keepsakes are crafted with the utmost care, ensuring they stand as beautiful representations of your special day. I keep you informed throughout the post-production process, providing updates and any necessary information regarding the delivery of your photos. My aim is to make the entire process from shooting to delivery as seamless and enjoyable as possible, culminating in a collection of photos that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
