How to prepare for wedding photos with your pet?

Wedding day is one of the most memorable days of our lives, and we all want to have beautiful pictures to cherish forever. And if you’re a pet lover, why not include your furry friend in your wedding photos?

Having your dog, cat, or horse in your wedding photos can make it even more special and add a unique touch to your big day. However, taking pictures with pets can be challenging if not planned properly. So, in this post, I will discuss how to prepare for wedding photos with your pet and some tips on how to involve them in your wedding photo session.

With more than ten years of experience as a wedding photographer, I saw many possibilities and creative solutions that I would be happy to share so that you, too, can organize a photo shoot with your pet on your big day much more calmly.

  1. Check with the venue:

One of the essential parts of organising your wedding with your pet is to check how your venue is with the pets. Are they allow you to bring them there? Some venues have strict policies against animals, so getting permission before bringing your furry friend is essential. You should also check with your photographer and ensure they’re comfortable working with pets. On the one hand, this helps you feel more comfortable during the photo shoot; on the other hand, it does not bring any surprises to the photographer.

2. Hire a pet sitter: On your wedding day, you’ll have a lot going on and won’t have time to look after your pet. You can hire a pet sitter, or asking a trusted friend or family member to look after your pet is probably the best idea. This will allow you to focus on your wedding and not worry about your furry friend. It will help you to not worry about anything and enjoy your big day.

The advantage of inviting someone is that your guests have no task but to enjoy your wedding day! Both options will be a huge help because if a trained person helps you, they know what they are doing, so you don’t have to worry. Also, if your friend helps, the advantage is that you are probably entrusting it to someone who has already taken care of your pet, so you can be sure that nothing will go wrong.

3. Plan: When planning your wedding day, you should also plan for your pet. Make sure you have food, water, and treats available for them throughout the day. You should also designate a quiet space for them to rest if they become overwhelmed.

4. Groom your pet: Just like you would groom yourself for your wedding day, you should also groom your pet. Bath your furry friend, trim their nails, and brush their coat to ensure they look their best for the photos.

If you want them to be a part of your wedding or to appear in your pictures, they must be clean and well-kept. And if you want something unique, make them a particular dress or some exciting accessory or anything thematic that matches your wedding theme. This will undoubtedly guarantee unique and memorable pictures!

5. Train your pet: Your pet should be well-trained and comfortable around people and other animals. Please ensure they’re satisfied with the sounds and smells of a wedding and the attire worn by the bridal party.

If you decide to train your pet for your wedding day, it can be a fun and rewarding experience. T’s essential to start early and be consistent with your training. Begin by teaching basic pet commands such as sit, stay, and come. Gradually introduce more complex behaviours like walking on a leash, staying calm in crowded areas, and greeting guests politely.

Consider enlisting the help of a professional trainer if you feel unsure or overwhelmed. Your pet can become a well-behaved and cherished member of your wedding celebration with patience and dedication.

tips for including your dog

Including your dog add a unique and personal touch to your wedding photos. You can take wedding portraits with them, or there is also a new trend when your pet takes pictures on your wedding day or recording videos, which can get a unique and memorable experience. However, it’s not as simple as just handing your dog a camera and letting them snap away. Here are some tips to help you include your dog in your wedding photo session:

  1. Choose the right dog for the job.

Not all dogs are cut out for the role of a wedding photographer. Choosing a dog that is well-behaved, comfortable around large crowds, and can handle the excitement of a wedding day is essential. Your dog should also be able to follow basic commands such as sit, stay, and come.

  1. Assign a handler

Even if your dog is well-behaved, it’s still a good idea to assign a handler to look after them on the wedding day. This person can ensure your dog stays calm and comfortable and help direct them to where the action is happening.

  1. Plan the shots

Before the wedding day, sit down with your handler and plan the shots you want your dog to take. You can also assign specific tasks to your dog, such as capturing candid moments or taking photos of the bride and groom.

  1. Use a GoPro or harness.

To capture the best shots, it’s a good idea to use a GoPro or harness to attach the camera to your dog. This will help keep the camera focused while your dog moves around.

  1. Practice, practice, practice

Before the wedding day, practice taking photos with your dog and the camera. This will help your dog get comfortable with the camera and get used to taking pictures in different settings.

  1. Consider a backup plan.

Even with the best planning, things don’t always go according to plan. Consider having a backup plan if your dog isn’t up for the task on the wedding day. You can always have a professional photographer on standby to take over if needed.

Including your dog as a wedding photographer can be a fun and unique way to capture your special day. With the correct planning and preparation, you can create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

pets in your wedding

As a documentary wedding photographer, I have seen firsthand how incorporating pets on a wedding day can add a unique and meaningful touch to the day. Pets are often considered a part of the family, and including them in wedding celebrations can make the day even more special. From dogs as ring bearers to cats as part of the bridal party, pets can be incorporated in many ways.

However, as a photographer, it’s essential to remember that pets can be unpredictable. While they can add a fun and playful element to the day, they can also be distracting if not appropriately managed. As a result, it’s essential to work closely with the couple and their pet to ensure that everyone is comfortable and that the pet is well-behaved.

Overall, including pets in a wedding can create some of the day’s most memorable and heartwarming moments. As a documentary wedding photographer, it’s my job to capture these moments as they happen and ensure that the couple has beautiful and timeless photos to look back on for years to come.

Your pets are essential to your life, so it’s only natural that you want to include them in your wedding day photos. Whether you have a dog, cat, or any other type of pet, there are plenty of ways to dress them up and make them a part of your special day. Here are some tips to help you involve them in your photos.

First, consider the style of your wedding and what outfits would complement your pet. If you’re having a formal wedding, you might want to consider a tuxedo or fancy dress for your pet. Alternatively, a cute bowtie or floral collar might be more appropriate for a casual wedding.

When it comes to actually taking photos, it’s essential to work with a professional photographer who has experience working with pets. They can help to create a safe and comfortable environment for your pet and capture the best possible shots. You might also consider bringing treats and toys to keep your pet occupied and happy during the photo shoot.

Prepare for wedding photos with your pet can be a fun and memorable way to include them in your special day. With the right outfits, photographer, and attitude, you can create beautiful and heartwarming photos you’ll cherish for years.
