Studio portrait photography

When selecting outfits for a studio portrait session, choose attire that reflects your personal style and makes you feel confident. Solid colours and subtle patterns are ideal as they provide a clean, timeless look without distracting your face. Avoid clothing with busy prints, logos, or text, as these can draw attention away from your expression and create a cluttered look. It’s also a good idea to bring a variety of options, including different colours and styles, to add variety to your photos. Layering pieces like jackets or scarves can also add depth and interest to your portraits.

My studio is located in Filton, Bristol. It’s a comfortable and well-equipped space designed to make you feel at ease during your session.

Preparation is key to a successful studio session. Here are a few tips:

  • Rest and Hydration: Ensure you get a good night’s sleep before your session to look refreshed. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the shoot to keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated.
  • Skin Care: Avoid trying new skincare products right before the shoot to prevent any unexpected reactions. Stick to your regular routine to keep your skin clear and comfortable.
  • Hair and Makeup: Arrive with clean, well-groomed hair. Minimal makeup can help maintain a natural look, but feel free to enhance your features according to your style. Consider bringing along any necessary touch-up products.
  • Outfits and Accessories: Plan your outfits in advance and bring a few options. Don’t forget to include any accessories that can complement your looks, such as jewellery, hats, or scarves.

Absolutely! Personal items and props can add a unique touch to your portraits and help tell your story. Whether it’s a meaningful piece of jewellery, a musical instrument, or a favourite book, incorporating these items can make your photos more personal and memorable. Please inform me in advance about any props you plan to bring so we can plan the session accordingly and ensure everything is seamlessly integrated.

My studio is fully equipped with professional lighting setups to ensure we capture high-quality images. This includes a variety of lighting options to create different moods and effects, from soft, flattering light to more dramatic setups. The controlled studio environment allows us to adapt the lighting to suit your style and preferences, ensuring you look your best in every shot.

For a typical studio session lasting 1-2 hours, 2-3 outfit changes are ideal. This allows us to capture a variety of looks without spending too much time on changing clothes. Make sure to choose outfits that can be easily swapped out to keep the session flowing smoothly. Layered clothing can also help you create different looks quickly.

A standard studio portrait session usually lasts between 1 to 2 hours. This duration gives us ample time to explore different poses, backgrounds, and outfit changes. The goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and unhurried, allowing us to capture a range of expressions and styles.

While I don’t provide makeup and hair services, I can recommend local professionals who can help you look your best before the session.

Outdoor portraits

For outdoor portrait sessions, choose outfits that complement the natural surroundings. Solid colours and subtle patterns work well to keep the focus on you. Consider the location and weather when selecting your attire. Light, breathable fabrics are great for warm weather, while layers can add depth and keep you warm in cooler temperatures. Avoid overly bright or neon colours, which can create unwanted colour casts in your photos. Comfortable shoes are also important, especially if we’ll be moving around a lot.

There are many beautiful locations for outdoor portrait sessions, including:

  • Local Parks: Offering lush greenery and scenic backgrounds.
  • Urban Areas: Featuring interesting architecture and vibrant street scenes.
  • Gardens: With colourful flowers and well-manicured landscapes.
  • Beaches: Providing a serene and picturesque setting with sand and water.
  • Scenic Nature Spots: Such as forests, hills, or lakes, which offer a natural and peaceful backdrop. We can discuss your preferences and select a location that best suits your style and vision.

If the weather is unfavourable, we have a few options:

  • Reschedule: We can reschedule the session at no additional cost to a day with better weather.
  • Alternative Location: We can move to an indoor location like my studio or another indoor venue. Keeping an eye on the weather forecast leading up to your session date can help us plan accordingly and ensure the best possible conditions for your photos.

Ensure you are well-rested and hydrated and have applied sunscreen if necessary. Bring along any personal items or props you’d like to include in your portraits.

A standard outdoor portrait session lasts 1 to 2 hours, allowing enough time for multiple outfits and locations.

The best times are usually early morning or late afternoon when the natural light is softer and more flattering, often referred to as the “golden hour.”

Edited photos will be delivered within 2-3 weeks via a private online gallery where you can view and download your images.

I had two times the pleasure of working with Eszter – who truly deserves every accolade possible. We did some portrait sessions, and from start to finish, her talent and professionalism shone through, making the entire experience unforgettable. It is not only unforgettable but also fun and joy.
